Challenges

The initial system setup cost is significant, and given the large number of stores and the diverse scale of outlets at LOTTE SUPER, a substantial CAPEX (capital expenditure) is required for full deployment. An approach based on real data—such as discount policies, promotion frequency, and labor cost savings—is essential. In addition, since existing systems such as POS, inventory management ERP, and promotion systems are intricately interconnected, technical customization is required to integrate and automate the ESL solution. Large-scale integrated testing is also indispensable in this process.

Solution

We proposed installing the R266 model, a 2.66-inch display type widely used in domestic retail stores, not only in non-food and household goods sections but also in other food and processed food sections. For refrigerated sections, we suggested the R290F model, a freezer tag that operates reliably even at -25°C. In addition, we proposed a system design that allows centralized price management and updates at headquarters through our proprietary central server management system.

Results

With the introduction of the InforTab electronic shelf label (ESL), the time required for price change operations in stores has been dramatically reduced to less than half. Previously, staff had to check daily price changes for each product, print paper price tags, and manually replace them on shelves after verification. This complex process required multiple employees. However, after implementing the InforTab system, a single staff member can now review updated prices and apply changes immediately. As a result, essential but time-consuming tasks have been eliminated, significantly reducing workload and greatly improving employee satisfaction. Starting with the Lotte Super Jamsil branch, positive feedback from installed stores has spread to regional managers. As of June 2025, InforTab has been installed in approximately 240 stores, with installations continuing to grow annually. Lotte Super plans to expand ESL installations to all of its stores in the future.
